What Information Goes on a Wedding Details Card?

Your wedding invitation tells guests the most important part—who, when, and where. But what about everything else?
Hotel information, transportation, dress code, your wedding website, reception details and weekend events all need a home, and that's where the wedding details card comes in.
A details card keeps your invitation from feeling overcrowded while giving guests the information they need to celebrate with you. And the best part? There isn't one exact formula. Your details card can be customized around your wedding and the information your guests actually need.
Here are some of the most common things to include.

Wedding Website
If you have a wedding website, your details card is the perfect place to share it.
Your website can hold information that doesn't necessarily need to be printed in your invitation suite, such as your registry, FAQs, travel recommendations, things to do and a more detailed wedding weekend itinerary.

Hotel & Accommodation Information
If you've reserved a hotel room block, include the hotel name and instructions guests need to make their reservation.
You don't necessarily need to squeeze every hotel detail onto the card. If booking information is lengthy, direct guests to your wedding website instead.

A block of rooms has been reserved at
The Grand Hotel
for our guests.
Please reserve by May 15 and mention the
Smith-Jones Wedding when booking.

Transportation
Providing a shuttle between the hotel and venue? Definitely tell your guests!
Include the pickup location and general transportation information on your details card. If you have several pickup times or locations, those specifics can live on your wedding website.
Transportation Wording Example
TRANSPORTATION
Transportation will be provided between
The Grand Hotel and Willow Creek Estate.
Shuttle times and additional information
are available on our wedding website.
Dress Code
Dress code wording can be included on the invitation itself, but your details card is another great place for it—especially if you'd like to provide guests with a little more guidance.
Some common options include:
Black Tie
Black Tie Optional
Formal Attire
Cocktail Attire
Semi-Formal Attire
Garden Party Attire
Beach Formal
If your venue has special considerations, you can mention those too.
For example:
Our ceremony will take place outdoors on grass. Block heels or flats are recommended.
Your guests' ankles will thank you.
Reception Information
If your ceremony and reception take place at different locations, a details card is a beautiful way to provide the second address without overcrowding your main invitation.
Reception Wording Example
RECEPTION
Dinner and dancing to follow at
The Grand Ballroom
123 Main Street
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
If everything takes place at one venue, a simple “Reception to follow” on the invitation is usually all you need.
Adults-Only Wedding Information
This one deserves a little finesse.
Rather than printing “NO CHILDREN” across your beautiful details card—which may technically get the point across but isn't exactly the vibe —use thoughtful wording and reinforce it through your addressed envelopes and RSVP.
Adults-Only Wording Examples
We respectfully request an adults-only celebration.
or
Although we love your little ones, our wedding celebration will be for adults only.
You can also include additional information on your wedding website FAQ.
Wedding Weekend Events
Planning a welcome party, farewell brunch or another event that all invited guests are welcome to attend? Your details card can include a simple wedding-weekend itinerary.
For example:
WELCOME PARTY
Friday, June 12 · 7:00 PM
The Garden Terrace
WEDDING DAY
Saturday, June 13 · 4:30 PM
Willow Creek Estate
FAREWELL BRUNCH
Sunday, June 14 · 10:00 AM
The Grand Hotel
One important etiquette note: if only certain guests are invited to an additional event, it's usually better to use a separate enclosure card for those guests rather than printing it on everyone's details card.
Registry Information
Here's one we get questions about frequently.
Traditionally, registry information isn't printed directly on the wedding invitation. Instead, include your wedding website on the details card and place your registry information on the website.
That keeps the invitation focused on inviting your guests to celebrate with you rather than on gifts.

Do You Actually Need a Wedding Details Card?
Not every wedding does.
If your ceremony and reception are at the same location and your guests can find everything else easily on your wedding website, a simple website card may be enough.
But if you have hotel accommodations, transportation, multiple venues or other information guests need to know, a details card can make your invitation suite much easier to navigate.
And because your details card is part of the overall invitation design, it doesn't have to feel like a boring information sheet. It can incorporate the same fonts, colors and design elements as your invitation and become another beautiful layer within the suite.
